Climber
Lucy Stirling
”It’s the scariest, most intimidating lines that excite me the most. Not scary-dangerous, but scary because they’re beautiful, awesome and look unimaginably hard.”

Lucy Stirling is an Australian climbing icon. Over the last decade, she’s made her mark as one of the country’s most successful competitive climbers, competing in 26 Open World Cups and 3 Open World Championships from 2014 – 2022.
In recent years, Lucy experienced a paradigm shift. While she’d done her best to balance outdoor climbing with her competitive career, her burning desire for adventure was growing, along with her ‘to-do list’ of challenging outdoor projects.
The outdoors continued to call, and Lucy was left with no choice but to hit pause on competing and make an official move to the dark side. Her new perspective led to one of her biggest achievements yet - discovering what climbing meant to her on a personal level. Lucy began making her own goals, and let go of the external pressures, expectations and competitiveness that had fuelled her for so long.
A pivotal climb on Lucy’s journey was Sheitan Sabzi (32). It opened her eyes to outdoor projecting and broke the glass ceiling she’d previously made for herself. It lit a fire in her belly to look for other routes she’d deemed impossible, and to simply just go for it.
While she’s eager to learn, Lucy also has so much to teach and share with her community. She keeps the sport grounded by being open about her struggles, going against the grain and shedding light on what it means to go ‘with the grain’ in climbing – something she battled against for many years.
If you’re looking for Lucy now, you’ll find her exploring the world, getting out of her comfort zone, and trying new things. She’ll continue to rediscover and reinforce the reasons she loves to climb, while living out her dirtbag dreams in the Blue Mountains.
