Mitchy Davern

“I love the idea of working with friends and people in the industry to create something that gets people feeling good, inspires them to try something new and reminds them to not take life so seriously.”

Mitchy Davern Snowboarder

If there’s one name you need to know in New Zealand snowboarding, it’s Mitchy Davern.

The ex-competitive snowboarder has been on the scene since he was a kid, showing a lot of promise from a young age. He was the World Rookie Slopestyle Champion in 2019 and placed 5th in Big Air at the Youth Winter Olympics in 2020.

As his competitive career started to take off, Mitchy did what most young athletes wouldn’t comprehend. He took a step back and asked the question – why do I snowboard?

With competition in the rearview mirror, Mitchy is now headed down a more collaborative road. One that enables him to work with others to create feel-good content that inspires people to try something new and reminds them not to take life too seriously.

Mitchy’s latest content project, and his first as an athlete with The North Face, aims to inspire people to do the things they love, no matter the outcome. HALATION sees Mitchy exploring beautiful North American terrain with Canadian teammate Ben Poechman. It serves as a reminder that life as an elite athlete doesn’t always revolve around podiums and medals, but it can be an art form and outlet for creative expression.

Where does Mitchy think the future of snowboarding is headed? He senses a shift in people starting to get more stoked on the beauty of snowboarding again, rather than watching people spin beyond what we thought was humanly possible.

While you’ll still catch him on the odd podium, and he’s no stranger to a couple of spins; expect to see more of Mitchy Davern in the backcountry, on big mountain terrain and in front of the lens – showing us what snowboarding is all about.

Mitchy Davern is a key player in taking snowboarding back to its roots.
