Within Australia

Dave Byrne

Running has been a major part of my life since I was in my early teens. From tearing around the track in little athletics, to representing Australia at World Junior and World Cross Country Championships, I have been a passionate middle and long distance runner for over 20 years. Highlights through this period range from winning the Australian junior title over 1,500m in 2000 and placing 2nd in the open national 1,500m in 2003, to coming third in the Zatopek 10,000m in 2005 and more recently placing 2nd in the Tarawera Ultra Marathon.

While my background is in track racing, I have a newfound love of the trails that has seen me return to training after giving the sport away in 2006. Now, the focus is on the long stuff and hitting the trails and mountains. It’s a new journey and so far I have had some great success in Australia’s biggest races. In the years ahead I’m keen on taking on the challenge of some of the most iconic global trail races.

When I’m not running I’m spending time with my wife, pug dog (Bosco) and getting lost in my books. My hobby is collecting rare and antique books, maps and ephemera, which sees me constantly searching online for curious items to add to my shelves!
