To get themselves ready for their upcoming trip to Peru, The North Face Adventure Grant recipients Steve Skelton and Ben Dare have been on a steady training program for several months. Along with a weekly schedule of runs, weighted hikes, dry tooling, bouldering and gym sessions, they have been building their skills and honing their partnership in the mountains.
In a couple of weeks, team ultra runner Andrew Tuckey will be heading to South Africa to take part in one of the oldest and biggest ultras, the Comrades Marathon. This year it falls on May 29, the day of Tuckey's fortieth birthday, and he can't think of a better way to spend it than running 89km with 20,000 other people.
From bush walks to mountain tops, playgrounds to campgrounds and rock pools to rock faces, mums have introduced their kids to the outdoors in the safety of their care, until they were ready to take on bigger challenges of their own. Today we celebrate all the outdoor mums who instilled in us an appreciation for the great outdoors and taught us how to roam.
Currently in the midst of an epic journey across Greenland, Gareth Andrews has set out to cross the icy interior of Greenland from Ammassalik on the East Coast to Kangerlussuaq on the West Coast, a distance of 550kms. We chat to him about the community he trains with at Joes Basecamp, where he dreams up the big aspirations and trains, before taking action.
